1. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each decision that Elaine has made. a. 1st decision Graphic, Inc. loan of $10 million. Graphco was a tobacco firm embroiled in litigation concerning the promotion of its products to children. Elaine based her decision by Moral Philosophies which refers to the specific principals or rules that people use to decide what is right or wrong (Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell, Ninth Edition Business Ethics, p 153). The advantage to this decision is she did what she felt was morally acceptable, the disadvantage is she does not have their business and she has no reason to believe they would not pay the loan back and she would have made money for the bank if she accepted and approved the loan†¦show more content†¦The advantage is she stayed away from an ethically questionable company since they were basically price gouging and the disadvantage, if you can get past the ethical decisions the company made, is they are a very successful company. During the evaluation of my seven habits profile, my life balance speaks of maintaining things that are important to you. I am in a wonderful relationship and work very hard to spend as much quality time with my partner as I can. President Andrew Jacksons policy towards Native Americans was highly partisan, favoring Americans of European ancestry, and detrimental to Indians. Jackson essentially wanted Native Americans to vacate lands that were integral to the U.S. at all costs. What is most significant about this fact is that he was not the only one who wanted to see this wholesale change in the landscape of the country. Despite some noble efforts on the part of Native Americans to integrate and to learn the customs, behaviors and habits of Europeans, displeasure fomented as early as the 1820s when certain states in the South Eastern portion of the country decided to forgo federal regulations that provided for land in these areas for Indians, and to have them removed. What is important about this fact is that these states were essentially going against federal legislation. Yet Jackson, who represented the zenith of federal legislation as the president, was always a states rights advocate and went beyond merely supporting the individual states of Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia in helping them with this process, but actually spearheaded the movement with 1830s Indian Removal Act, which the president was instrumental in pushing past Congress. Now imagine that the person you wish to marry is of a different race. It wouldnt be a big deal, right? Well, if this situation had occurred about 50 years ago, it would have been a huge deal. Just a generation ago, many states banned mixed marriages. Seems absurd, doesnt it? Discriminating against an individual like that because of the color of their skin? This is a situation in America that I am sure all of you are familiar with, and most all of us I am sure agree that just because a person has different colored skin does not make them any different on the inside. We dont discriminate against minorities because of their color of their skin, so why is it that we now discriminate against gays and lesbians because of what is in their hearts? It is the same type of discrimination, and it needs to be stopped. How do we go about doing that, you ask? Dont worry, I am not going to be unrealistic and ask you to become a gay-rights activist and make supporters of all of your friends and family. I am just going to ask you to do your small part to help give homosexuals the ability to marry. It is unfair to deny them this right, and together we need to act in order to give them this right, this equality, that they deserve. As I have told you all in my last two speeches, there are legal rights and benefits that come with marriage that homosexuals are being denied. According to the American Civil Liberties Union, many of the benefits of marriage that homosexuals are denied include: government benefits like Social Security and Medicare; hospital visitation rights; special rates and exemptions on tax returns; joint child custody; joint insurance policies; automatic inheritance in the absence of a will; making medical decisions on a partners behalf; and choosing a final resting place for a deceased partner. While none of these are reasons to get married, they are all benefits and perks that homosexuals should not be denied simply because of their choice of a partner. They are rights that homosexuals are entitled to and deserve, and are rights that they would be able to benefit from if same-sex marriages were legalized. When you put yourself in their shoes, as I have had you do in my past speeches, it is clear to see that they deserve these rights as much as heterosexual couples do, and that their choice of partner should not affect these basic rights. I am sure you are all still asking yourselves just how YOU can make a difference.
